Meeting Minutes for September 16, 2008
Hi, everyone!!
September 16th was C.A.R.E.'s first meeting, and we talked about our plans for a great fall semester (while eating some snacks that Ashley and Stacy kindly brought!)
We discussed membership requirements for this semester. All members must pay $5 dollars for dues. To receive active membership, members need to earn at least 20 points over the semester. These points are earned by attending meetings, participating in Homecoming preparation, attending Homecoming events, and participating in other volunteer and social events that will be arranged as the semester continues. At the end of the semester, we reward active members with a certificate of membership. Active membership keeps our organization strong, and also looks great on resumes! Participation is always welcome even if you can't achieve active membership -- we appreciate everyone who can contribute time and effort to C.A.R.E!
We made suggestions for activities to participate in this semester. We are hoping to give C.A.R.E. a more community-service focus this year. Some of the things we talked about at the meeting were making blankets for Project Linus, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics bowl-a-thon, and volunteering at local schools. We also discussed having some speakers at future meetings. If anyone has any suggestions, we'd love to hear them! Finally, we talked about Homecoming, which is the week of October 20-25. We are considering the theme of "A Day in the Life of a Teacher", and we talked about the possibilities of making a banner and walking in the parade. We are also hoping to get t-shirts for our organization! We will be planning for Homecoming at our next meetings, so if you are interested in participating with us, we'd love to hear your suggestions and opinions! :-)
Our next meeting is on September 30th at 6 PM in Winther 2013! We will be doing a lot of Homecoming planning. We'd love to see you there -- and new members are ALWAYS welcome! :-)
